The Cowichan Indian tribe and Native Hawaiian Cultural Exchange

On Friday December 13, 2013 I had the honor of being asked to photograph the ceremonies, dances, chants and craft making by the Cowichan tribe Indians. The Cowichan people are located in the Cowichan Valley, in mid-Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The goal of the trip to Hawai'i Island was to meet with local Hawaiian people and exchange cultural aspects of their modern day lives through stories and dance and traditional crafts. Local Hawaiians shared canoe and paddle making, chants, local dishes and story telling.

After several months of planning the Cowichan group secured a grant which helped with their transportation and lodging costs to visit Hawai'i Island. The event was hosted at the Keauhou Canoe Club in Keauhou Kona Hawai'i.
