This week was a funny week. At the beginning of the week I had one photo job over the weekend. By Thursday I had another job and a potential arrangement with a book writer from Australia. No word on if the deal will happen but it was cool to be bombarded by opportunity. I love weeks like that.
Here are a few roughs from todays golf tournament, sponsored by Kapa Radio, that was held at the beautiful Makalei Golf club in the hills above Kailua-Kona. It's a great looking public golf course. It even has Peacocks and Turkeys for your dinning pleasure.

Hawaiian Music makers
Over the past year I have been fortunate to be the photographer for the Hui Kako'o Benefit Concerts at the Keauhou Village Shopping Center in Keauhou Hawaii. I have heard dozens of Hawai'i young and old music makers on the last Saturday night of the month. The following photos are a small sample of the images I've shot at these concerts.
Jeff Rasmussen
Damon Williams
Brutha Walta
The Hui Kako'o Benefit Concerts at the Keauhou Village Shopping Center in Keauhou are scheduled event month on the last Saturday of each month. Admission is just 2 cans of food that will serve as a donation to the Hawaii Food Basket. Its for a great cause and you get to hear some great Hawaii music at the same time. See you there.

Makalawena Beach - Hats and Kites
Today was the second time that I've ventured the 40 minute walk over hot dusty trails to get to the most beautiful beach in West Hawaii. Makalawena...
After our grueling trek we arrived at a very picturesque setting but this time there were lots of people on the sand and camping along the trial that leads out to the various beach spots. When we settled under a tree we noticed one of our beach going neighbors was trying to launch a kite for his daughter. I almost forgot to mention that we had 2 dogs in tow with us. One dog, Lani, was a calm and fun loving dog while Holly, the newer pup, was full of vim and vigor.... Holly couldn't keep still so Jamie put the leash back on her to try to keep the peace with our neighbors. After a few moments it seemed that all was right in the animal kingdom so Jamie let Holly go. This turned out to be an almost fatal decision for the kite.

Holly attacked the kite 3 times causing it to develop a slight left turn on subsequent flights. The owners was cool, they said it wasn't damaged too badly, just a small broken part on the left wing. It was salvageable. Holly was issued a long time out for her spirited moves.... LOL
The rest of the time was spent climbing trees, playing frisbee, drinking and enjoying the beautiful sunny day - until the clouds and rain sprinkles rolled in.
I almost forgot to mention the main reason why I braved the march to Batan leading to Maks - to photograph Jamie's new hand painted hats. She's got them on display in the Beaches swimsuit store in the Sunset Plaza Mall. Check 'em out.

Look up in the Sky.... It's a bird, it's a plane!
When I first moved to Kona 8 years ago you could count on a killer sunset with clear blue mixed with evening orange, pinks and reds and yellow tones of the setting sun every night. Then the Volcano decided to change the plan and the skies have never been the same.
So rather than abandon shooting the setting sun due to heavily vogged air I used my imagination to create some very cool and colorful sunsets using the vog as a feature.
Shine on you crazy diamond!!!

More photos from the 12th annual Kamehameha III “Lani Kauikeaouli” Concert
Saturday was such a special night, huge crowd, local style food and drink and entertainment for hours. I took tons of photos so it was tough sorting through them to find just the gems to give to my client. But there were so many good shots that I thought I'd share a few of them with you.
Enjoy these new shots.

12th annual Kamehameha III “Lani Kauikeaouli” Concert
Well Saturday night was the last of 3 shoots for the Kamehameha Investment Corporation. Last night was the 12th annual Kamehameha III “Lani Kauikeaouli” Concert on the back lawn of the Sheraton Keauhou Beach Resort and Spa.
The concert and hula demonstrations was great. several bands and Hula Halau performed both new and traditional works. It was fun night even though I was on my feet for 5 hours.
As the afternoon sun faded to evening I had to break out the flash to ensure I could capture everything crisp and clear.

In celebration of Kauike'aouli Kamehameha III
This week has been a fun week in photography for me. I got to shoot the annual event honoring the late Kamehameha III. On Friday March 16th I attended the the adopted birth date of Kamehameha III. He so admired Saint Patrick that he changed the date of his birthday so he could celebrate it on the same day that the rest of the world acknowledged St. Patrick. All before green beer entered the celebration of course.

The Keauhou Beach Clean-up
Last week I was contracted to shoot the cleanup of the Keauhou Bay area. 1 year ago the Keauhou Bay was hit by the Tsunami that was generated after the devastating earth quake in Japan. Several businesses in the harbor area were wiped out from the waves that hit the harbor on March 11, 2011. Sea Paradise scuba diving company's building was severely damaged by the tsunami. The build had to be torned down and Fairwinds building had to be renovated too.
Tires attached to the sides of the concrete piers were ripped from their spots and submerged into the bay to act as the newest reefs.
The community turned out in force to help with the clean-up. Volunteers painted, hacked down brush and even put on their scuba gear to retrieve the trash that littered the floor of the bay.
The bay is much cleaner now that the fantastic turnout of young and old worked hard to bring the bay back to it's old clean self.

Traveling back in time
A few years ago a good friend of mine was trying to get her new business on the map. The map happened to be located in Italy. Her business was property management for fractional ownership homes. Her company is called Carrara, LLC. Carrara offer beautifully restored villas to buyers seeking the lifestyle of an Italian vacation home and the convenience of a professionally managed, shared investment. We started talking about her first home in Gaiole in Chianti.
She wanted to have photos taken of the property and she needed help. To complicate things a bit she was planning to have hip surgery soon but the trip to Italy had already been planned and she had undergone a procedure that made it almost imposible to drive so she asked me if I'd be up for an adventure. I agreed to be her driver and she agreed to hire me to photograph her first property. The photo were destined for use in brochures, websites and various presentations to perspective owners.
And the view from my apartment
